What is special event insurance?
Special event insurance, also known as one-day event insurance, can help protect you from financial loss for a specific occasion, such as a wedding. It can cover your costs in case you unexpectedly need to cancel, or if you're found responsible for property damage or injuries that occur during the event. Plus, you can add coverage for certain items, such as cakes, dresses, and more.
Do I need insurance for my event?
Many venues will require you to purchase general liability insurance for your event to protect you and them in case someone gets hurt or the property is damaged. You might even be at risk of losing your event spot if you don't provide proof of insurance. But you could lose even more than that if you don't get the right coverage. For example, if someone leaves the plug open on a cooler and causes damage to your venue's hardwood floors, you could be stuck with a massive repair bill — as high as $10,000 in one case.
What does wedding & event insurance cover?
You can build your own special event insurance policy simply by selecting the coverages you want. Here are a few you can choose from:
Wedding & event liability insurance
Often required by the venue, event liability insurance comes standard and covers property damage or injuries to guests.
Example: A guest at your wedding slips and falls on the dance floor, requiring emergency medical treatment. Liability insurance will cover their medical bills up to the limits specified in your policy.
Wedding cancellation insurance
Cancellation coverage reimburses your non-refundable expenses, such as deposits, in case you must cancel or postpone your wedding. This coverage may also apply to your cake, flowers, rental cars, and more. Please note that you may have to purchase this coverage at least 20 days in advance.
Example: A pipe bursts in the hall where you were going to have your reception, forcing you to postpone until the next day. You'll be covered for non-refundable lost deposits up to the limits of your policy.
Special coverage
Insures your dress, tuxedos, gifts, photographs, and more against damage or theft prior to your event.
Example: You accidentally rip your wedding dress while opening the box it came in. Special coverage will reimburse you for the cost to repair or replace your dress up to the limits of your policy.
How much does event insurance cost?
Insuring your wedding through Moreland can cost as little as $66. The exact cost of your event insurance policy will vary based on the number of people attending, the length of the event, as well as the coverages you buy. For example, a large festival with 5,000 attendees can cost as much as $1,500 to insure.
